The trail was developed on the abandoned Chicago-Northwestern Railroadgrade.
The 400 State Trail, parallels the Baraboo River from Elroy to Reedsburg.The most scenic trail in the Wisconsin State Trail system. Packed limestone screenings and bridges with planked floors provides a smooth bike riding surface. A Unique feature of the "400" Trail is a 7 mile horse trail which parallels the trail between Wonewoc and La Valle, crossing by and aroundthe beautiful Dutch Hollow Lake.
Recreational opportunities don't stop when the snow flies. Snowmobiles usethe trail during the winter months.
